Top 3 tips to make Your Color Last
I firmly believe that your hair is an investment, not an expense.
Every day you look in the mirror, & one of the most crucial things you do to get ready is style your hair the way you want. Even if you throw it in a messy bun for the day, you still took the time to do it…
So if you are taking the time & money to color your hair, or highlight your hair, on top of your daily routine, you want something that will get you the most bang for your buck… right??
So here are some of my FAVORITE & tested out ways to keep your color lasting & getting the most out of your color services;
When you come to your session, especially with me, we will discuss your hair care routine at home. This includes how often you wash, & style your hair. Then I will follow it with asking what exact products you’re currently using.
The reason I ask these questions is because oftentimes, the products you're currently using are causing more problems than you would think…
#1 Find a Hair Care Products that fit your lifestyle & your hair…
A great example is my sister-in-law; She & My brother did this amazing new concept of living in a van! They get to travel all over America, & spend quality time together, all the things. However, one day she came to me & said “I’m not sure what’s changed, but recently my hair is just so dry!” Now this was a challenge that I really loved, because 1.) living in a van she can’t have a TON of products. 2.) I needed to find out what was causing her gorgeous hair to get so dry. After talking about it more in-depth, I realized that their van heater was directly above their bed. So although nice & toasty, her hair was getting cooked all through the night making her toner fade faster, & drying out her hair. Then, the products she was currently using, weren’t helping protect her hair from the direct heat. Basically, like applying a 10 SPF sunscreen on yourself for 8 hours in the sun… it’s not gonna last or work. So we dialed in on a mix of Davines Oi Shampoo & conditioner, to protect her color during washes & add moisture back in. Plus, to really get the longevity of protection & moisture between washes, using Incommon’s Magic Myst Leave in Spray. Now she has three products that deliver EVERYTHING she needs, & she comes in to touch up her color about every 3-4 months. Talk about sustainable…
#2 Heat Protectant & Leave In Conditioner
I used to think this was common knowledge… & recently come to terms with it’s not. Which is totally okay! However, oftentimes after asking about your lifestyle, & hair care routine I still hear people complaining about breakage, heat damage, dry, brittle hair, & color fading. I honestly can't think of one client of mine who wouldn’t benefit from a good leave-in & heat-protectant treatment. This one simple product can do you WONDERS, & the majority of the time my clients come back saying “I can’t believe how much that leave-in changed everything!”
#3 Buy From a Trusted Source
Now here is where I get weird sometimes; I know one of the easiest places to shop is Amazon, however, Amazon is like shopping at Ross. You don’t really know if what you're getting is accurate, you don’t know how long it's been on the shelf, & you can even guarantee its the actual product it says it is. (you have no idea how many times I’ve been told, or it has happened to myself, that products arrive with a funky smell, don’t look right etc.) Sometimes, these old, mystery products will literally strip away your toner. However, I know sometimes we gotta do what we gotta do. So this is why I always have my product links available on my website. With multiple different brands, & different price points.
The biggest thing I have learned; If you trust your hairstylist with your color, extensions, cut, or whatever… you should also trust they did the research behind each product to be able to offer it to you to buy either in person, or from a trusted source online.
They did the groundwork for you, so you can shop confidently in your pajamas if you want too.
These three simple tips can really make a huge difference in making your investment last.
