extensions & you.

I have had a lot of clients, & including myself ask themselves this question… “are extensions for me?”

As we’re scrolling on Social Media, many inspirational pictures for hair are often extensions. Extensions help achieve Dream Hair quicker. But there are a few aspects that need to be taken into consideration.

  1. Let’s chat first about the factor a lot of people aren’t aware of, Finances; Extensions are a true investment into yourself, & the ultimate luxury service. New Extension installs can range from $600 - $2000. The reason why, is because you pay for both the hair, & the service.

The service charge depends on a few factors, how many wefts of extensions you need for the desired look, coloring whether you need highlights, or a root touch, & lastly, if there is a specific haircut you have in mind for your look. These all add time, which means that, I will price your service fee to adequately fit all your hairs needs.

  2. Do you live an active lifestyle? I love my clients who love hiking, swimming, boxing, horseback riding, the list can go on… however, it is important to remember that extensions are a luxury service. This means that if you live an active lifestyle you need to consider the effect that your lifestyle can have on your beautiful locks.

Extensions require you to be responsible & give those locks some extra love. A good example is, bringing a travel brush with you everywhere to brush your hair after a run. Taking your time to shower properly to cleanse & moisturize your hair the same day or immediately after you take a swim. Using the best options such as scrunchies, or clips to tie your hair up, or embracing loose braids more often on boat trips, or car cruises.

Getting extensions doesn’t mean you can’t be active, but you want to protect your investment for longevity, & health of the hair.

  3. Maintenance extensions will require you to be in the salon every 7 - 9 weeks. Move-ups are 100% necessary to protect not only the Extension Hair, but your actual hair & scalp. These move up sessions can be as simple as you coming in with clean hair, & I move them up. Or, a move up where I have to color the extensions to make sure the blend of the extensions with your natural hair, & the extensions remains. Extensions are real hair, which means just like your own hair, the color needs to be enhanced occasionally as well.

  4. Extension hair can last anywhere from 6-8 or more months if loved & taken care of properly. We love our hair, so sometimes wefts need to be replaced sooner. Because since Extension hair is real, it will get dry & split ends, & even with all the moisture treatments, & a great home care routine the hair will eventually shrink overtime.

Also, just like some of our favorite shirts, or clothes, wefts can unravel, break, shed or tangle & dread. Especially if you are not taking proper care, live an active lifestyle, or even let them air dry too often. One way you can prevent them from shrinking or thinning is by purchasing new wefts of hair every 3 to 4 move ups. This will absolutely allow you to always have your dream hair, & make your wallet a bit happier as well!

  5. Lastly, Products. You’ve received your hair, you’re absolutely obsessed with flipping your hair around, having fun with new fun ways to style, but yet use products you bought from Walmart. Please do not do this. Now I cannot stop you, that factor is out of my control. However, I personally would not spend $2000 on my hair to then use products that have unknown factors.

What you put on your extensions will ultimately impact the longevity, & health of your extensions. Stay away from sulfate’s & paraben’s, any strengthening or protein products, these will ruin your hair.

I have a list of all my favorite products: (feel free to reach out about what products work best for you!)

    - Incommon’s Magic Myst Leave In

    - Davines Oi Milk

    - Davines Oi Shampoo & Conditioner

    - Hairstory New Wash

Overall, I love my Extensions. I don’t see anytime in the near future where I won’t be wearing my extensions. They take time to get used to the new routines, the new products, & the new ways to style. However, I truly believe they are 100% worth it!
